SOC-105 Juvenile Delinquency
This course provides an overview of historical and contemporary social foundations of juvenile delinquency. Theoretical explanations of youth deviance and crime, societal and institutional responses to delinquency, and research and social policy are covered. Students will acquire an understanding of the legal framework and operations of the juvenile justice system - juvenile courts, detention facilities, and treatment programs - with an emphasis on the components and structure of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.
