2025-2026 Academic Catalog

Computer-Aided Design Concentration, Mechanical Engineering Technology, A.A.S.

This program is suspended and not enrolling new students as of December 2025.

The Computer-Aided Design Concentration program gives students the opportunity to develop skills in computer-aided design (CAD). Lecture and laboratory courses provide an application-based study in engineering technology. Students obtain the scientific, engineering, and technical skills necessary to function as a contributing member of the engineering team. Articulation agreements exist with Washington County Public Schools, Fulton County Area Vocational Technical School, and Greencastle-Antrim High School for high school students to earn credit and/or dual-enroll in the program. The program is particularly beneficial for the in-service technical person who wishes to upgrade job skills or apply a degree toward a new position. This A.A.S. program is a career degree, preparing students for the workforce after graduation. However, students can opt to transfer to a four-year program rather than start a career, but should confer with advisors and transferring institutions for specific requirements.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Students will demonstrate knowledge and use of a 3D parametric computer-aided drafting and design software used for a variety of mechanical drawing techniques.
  2. Students will be able to apply (i) principles of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and (II) manufacturing methods.
  3. Students will utilize basic knowledge and familiarity with industry codes, specifications, and standards such as ASTM, ASME, ANSI or others.
  4. Students will demonstrate proficiency in CAD by applying program-level skills and knowledge in comprehensive design projects.
  5. Students will be able to successfully demonstrate familiarity with and proper usage of measurement tools, instruments, industry codes and standards.
  6. Students will be able to effectively prepare laboratory reports and systems documentation associated with development, installation, or maintenance of mechanical components and systems.
