ELL-090 Writing Essentials for English Language Learners

This course is designed for students whose native language is not English. Instruction includes integration of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Emphasis is on developing paragraphs and short essays that are unified, coherent, and fully developed. Instruction also focuses on developing reading strategies to enhance comprehension, recall, analysis of texts, and academic vocabulary in preparation for American college freshman-level courses. Students placed into this course are required to utilize online learning tools for additional instruction, homework, and skill-building exercises, and are encouraged to meet with instructors or tutors outside of scheduled class times.
