Education, A.S.

The Associate of Science degree in Education is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution outside of the state of Maryland to obtain a baccalaureate degree and earn state teacher certification in elementary education OR who plan to obtain a baccalaureate degree and earn state teacher certification in secondary education at any four-year institution. Students are required to submit a professional portfolio prior to graduation that meets the standards of the Education faculty.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Identify historical events in education and analyze the impact those events have had on the American school system.
  2. Discriminate among the theories and concepts related to psychological, cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development of children and adolescents.
  3. Differentiate among culturally responsive instructional practices and assessment tools that promote student learning and reflective teaching practices.
  4. Demonstrate mastery of diverse content areas central to the discipline or disciplines one intends to teach.
  5. Create a digital collection of artifacts that showcase personal and professional growth, including coursework, reflections, theory to practice connections during field experience, and achievements.
