2025-2026 Academic Catalog

Interactive Design and Game Development Concentration, Information Systems Technology, A.A.S.

The Interactive Design and Game Development concentration provides students with the skills to design and develop computer games, detailed simulations and interactive technologies. Program concentration may be chosen from two separate tracks. Choosing from one of the tracks allows students to specialize in an area that is most beneficial. Course concentration is on game design, virtual modeling, animation, interactive application creation, programming, documentation, structured design principles, problem solving, and business ethics. Classes are conducted in hands-on labs. Credits from both options transfer to the University of Baltimore. This A.A.S. program is a career degree, preparing students for the workforce after graduation. However, students can opt to transfer to a four-year program rather than start a career, but should confer with advisors and transferring institutions for specific requirements.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to design, plan, and create game design documents / game levels using analog and/or digital tools.
  2. Students will be able to design, rig, and animate characters for use in 2d / 3d games and videos.
  3. Students will be able to plan, design, and develop interactive projects interactivity products in a timely manner.
  4. Students will be able to create game / mobile applications using C, C++, C#, Java and other object-oriented programming languages.
  5. Students will be able to defend their technology solutions to internal stake holders and potential customers through effective communication.
  6. Students will understand project management and planning for game and animation projects.
  7. Students will be able to discuss their knowledge of theory and vocabulary of their field in a professional manner through written and verbal communications as well as demonstrated in their work.
  8. Students will be able to evaluate and employ safe computing practices.
  9. Students should be able to create an online portfolio, resume, and apply for jobs in the industry or go on to four-year college if they so choose.
  10. Students will explore entrepreneurship and business opportunities in game design and development by creating a business plan for an independent game studio.
